KTM 350 EXC-F

The enduro bike that is not quite a 250 and not quite a 450, and is the best of both for most riders. Light, registrable, and strong enough for anything. Sold in Australia from 2012 to 2026, 15 model years.

About the KTM 350 EXC-F

The 350 EXC F is the bike KTM invented to end the argument between 250 and 450 riders. It weighs what a 250 weighs, it makes enough power to climb anything, and it does not wear you out the way a 450 does. It is registrable, it has electric start and a hydraulic clutch, and it has been one of the best selling enduro bikes in Australia since it arrived in 2012.

It suits a trail rider who does a bit of everything, an enduro racer in the E2 class, and anyone who finds a 250 lacking and a 450 too much. Against a 300 EXC two stroke it is heavier but smoother and more relaxed. Against a Husqvarna FE 350 or GasGas EC 350F it is the same bike with different suspension and bodywork.

What changed by year

2012 to 2016
The first 350 EXC F. Electric and kick start, linkage rear end from 2012. A strong, simple engine and a great used buy.
2017 to 2019
New generation: lighter engine and frame, WP Xplor fork, electric start only. Still very common on the used market.
2020 to 2023
Revised frame, engine and mapping, better clutch. 2023 was the next new generation with a new frame and suspension.
2024 onwards
Updated engine, frame and bodywork, closed cartridge fork. The current bike.

Servicing a 350 EXC-F

Oil every 10 to 15 hours for trail riding, sooner if raced, with a filter every second change. It takes about a litre with a filter and KTM specifies a JASO MA 10W 60 or 10W 50 full synthetic. The hydraulic clutch uses mineral oil on most years; check the reservoir cap.

Air filter every ride in dust. Valves hold their clearances well but check them at the interval in the table. Plan on a piston around 60 to 80 hours for a trail bike, sooner if raced. Grease the linkage and swingarm after wet rides and keep the coolant fresh; the fan is standard on the newer bikes.

Engine hours between jobs: the schedule the Digital Garage tracks for this bike, based on the manual. Racers and hard riders go sooner, as above. Ride in sand or mud and halve the engine ones.

Buying a used KTM 350 EXC-F

Ask about hours, the last valve check and whether the bike has been de restricted. Make sure it starts on the button hot and cold and the clutch lever is firm. Look at the airbox, the linkage bearings, the sump guard and the radiators. Check the rego status and whether it has a roadworthy.
