About the Husqvarna FC450

The FC 450 is the Husqvarna version of the premium 450 motocross bike. Electric start, hydraulic clutch, the lightest or close to it in the class, and traction control, launch control and a quickshifter on the current generation. Husqvarna gives it a composite subframe and airbox, its own WP settings and its own bodywork.

It suits a fast clubman or A grade rider who wants the lightest, most adjustable 450. It feels sharper than a YZ450F and the air fork divides opinion. Which of the FC 450 and the KTM 450 SX F to buy usually comes down to price and the dealer.

2014 to 2015
The first Austrian built FC 450. Electric start, hydraulic clutch, linkage rear end.
2016 to 2018
New generation: lighter engine and frame, air fork from 2017.
2019 to 2022
Revised frame and engine, updated air fork, map switch with traction and launch control.
2023 onwards
All new frame, engine and bodywork, quickshifter, phone tuning. The current bike.

Servicing a FC450

Oil every 5 to 10 hours depending on how hard it is ridden, filter every second change. It takes about 1.2 litres with a filter and a JASO MA 10W 60 or 10W 50 full synthetic. The Magura clutch uses mineral oil.

Air filter every ride. Check the valves at the interval in the table. Plan on a piston around 40 to 50 hours for a race bike. Check the air fork pressure before every ride and grease the linkage after wet rides.

Buying a used Husqvarna FC450

Ask about hours, the last piston and the last valve check. Make sure it starts on the button hot and cold, the air fork holds pressure and the clutch lever is firm. Look at the airbox, the linkage bearings and the composite subframe mounts. On the 2023 onwards bikes ask whether the suspension has been revalved.
