About the GasGas EC300

Since KTM took over GasGas the EC 300 has been the third version of the 300 two stroke enduro bike, alongside the KTM 300 EXC and the Husqvarna TE 300. Same fuel injected engine, same frame, electric start, hydraulic clutch and registration. GasGas gives it a steel subframe, its own suspension settings and simpler equipment, and prices it below the other two.

It suits the same rider as the KTM and the Husqvarna, and the reason to buy it is usually the price. It rides nearly the same, the parts are the same, and the red is a good colour. The older Spanish built EC 300s before 2021 are a different bike entirely and have their own page.

What changed by year

2021 to 2023
The first Austrian built EC 300 with TPI fuel injection. Steel subframe, simpler kit, lower price.
2024 onwards
TBI throttle body injection and the new generation frame. The current bike.

Servicing a EC300

Gearbox oil every 10 to 15 hours (about 800 ml), air filter every ride in dust, and keep the oil injection tank full. Never let it run dry. Rings around 60 to 80 hours and a piston around 100 to 150 for a trail bike.

Clean the power valve at every top end. Grease the linkage and swingarm after wet rides and keep the coolant fresh.

Buying a used GasGas EC300

Make sure the oil injection has never run dry and the bike idles cleanly hot. Look for a dented pipe, bent radiators, a cracked sump guard and a worn clutch. Check the rego status and whether it has been de restricted. Make sure it is the 2021 onwards Austrian bike if that is what you are paying for.

What is the difference between a GasGas EC 300 and a KTM 300 EXC?
Same engine and frame. The GasGas has a steel subframe, different suspension settings, simpler equipment and a lower price.
Does the GasGas EC 300 need premix?
No. The 2021 onwards bikes are oil injected and run straight fuel.
Is the GasGas EC 300 road registrable?
Yes. It is sold ADR compliant and can be registered in every Australian state.
Are GasGas parts the same as KTM parts?
Most engine and frame parts are shared. Bodywork, subframe and some suspension parts are GasGas specific.
